Info : Taking Protein Powder into New Zealand

Can I take Protein Powder into NZ
i.e. through customs???

I have been stressed about this topic for 3 days!
I researched online and there were some people saying it's fine, others said it got confiscated >_<

Now I can tell everyone out there travelling from Australia the answer^^

It was Thursday night and I sent an email to NZ customs that night
and NO ONE got back to me till Saturday afternoon.
My trip was Saturday and this is what they said.

"If it is commercially prepared and packaged"....
what does this mean?????
Obviously it is commercially prepared and packaged.
I wanted to know if it has to be new!!!!!

I also tried calling them but no one picked up!
It was Saturday so no one would reply to me the same day.

Thus, I called up the airport as my last resort.
I tried soooo many numbers and this is the one you should call.
The man that I spoke to said "Ideally it should be sealed but in reality not really"

OLEH~~~!!!!

CALL THIS NUMBER TO CHECK ANYTHING (not just for protein powder)
+64 9 909 8609

Then someone else got back to me
and this is what it said

If you are ringing from Australia you need to dial the international prefix before the number. I think for Australia it is 0011.So try the following number: 0011 64 9 9098614.
Your protein powder must meet the following conditions and then it will be permitted entry into NZ:
7.20 Private consignments of muscle protein powders containing dairy and egg ingredients from Australia, USA, Canada, and the European Union may be given biosecurity clearance provided the following requirements are met:

i. The product is shelf stableii. The product is commercially packaged and prepared iii. The product is in its original sealed packaging on arrivaliv. The country of origin is identifiable from the packagingv. The total weight of the consignment is 20 kilograms or less

Please declare the protein powder on your declaration form.

Ah~ what the hell
I decided I will take it!  sealed or not. I'd rather risk it!

I had my huge 1.5KG already opened (about 1KG left) &
partially used bucket of protein and new unopened BCCA.
Took up so much of my 23KG baggage limit but it is so much better than buying it in NZ.
The same stuff I would have had to pay more than $230.

I arrived at the airport,
Retrieved my bag,
Went to the customs gate.
I declared my protein powder and the man there said

"I will let you off this time but next time it needs to be sealed"

Oh man~
Talk about MAJOR RELIEF!!!!

So ultimately, you can take your protein powder into NZ as long as it's in its original packaging.
Ideally it should be sealed and new
but because in reality it is hard to take 2-3KG of protein powder with you
I think they let you off
AS LONG AS YOU DECLARE IT

^^

  4. Hello,

Thank you for your query about importing food.

Muscle protein powders containing dairy and/or egg ingredients may be imported from any country provided the product is:

    a) A private consignment of no more than 1 kilogram dry weight (may be open), or

    b) Shelf-stable

    A product is shelf-stable if:

    a) The product has been commercially manufactured.

    b) The product has been packaged by the manufacturer.

    c) The product is in that package.

    d) The package has not been opened or broken.

    e) The product:

    i) Is able to be stored in the package at room or ambient temperature.

ii) Does not require refrigeration or freezing before the package is opened.

If the product contains dairy but does not contain egg then it does not have to be shelf stable and the weight limit is 2kg.

All risk goods must be declared or be disposed of in marked amnesty bins at air and sea ports. If you're unsure – declare. On arrival in New Zealand, your bags may be sniffed by detector dogs, x-rayed or searched. Infringement fees, fines and penalties apply for not declaring risk items on your Passenger Arrival Card.

Note that this email is not a guarantee that your goods will be given clearance. It is a guide only and is based on the details you have provided and the current import requirements which are subject to change.

    Kind regards,

  6. Protein Supplements For Weight Loss primarily contain whey protein and casein protein. Casein proteins are found in the milk of humans and cows and contain all the essential amino acids that our body needs. This measured digestive milk protein helps in maintaining a lean body mass and also reduces the pace of muscle loss.
